Item details

The gripfid is a superb tool for knotwork, split ply braiding, leather braiding, fine splicing, and so on.
I make my gripfids in steel, which allows for a less difference between inner and outer diameter compared to brass or aluminum.

Sizes are given as width of slit/length of. The slit has a relatively long taper, and tapers down from full diameter down to slightly less than 1/3 of full width. This gives a smooth and very strong grip. The sizes can handle an overlapping range of cordage thickness, allowing the full range of sizes to handle cordage from about 1 mm up to 4 mm thickness.

My gripfids are made with what is known as “open” point. This allows the cord to sink down deeper into the tool slot, and making the gripfid/cordage unit slimmer and taking up less space. This allows it to pass more easily through narrow passages

Handles are turned from Swedish Oak and treated with a linseed oil/beeswax mix.
Each gripfid is hand turned and made individually.

Standard sizes are: 1.5/65 mm – 2.0/70 mm – 2.5/75 mm – 3.0/80 mm – 3.5/85 mm – 4.0/90 mm.
On the photo with all the gripfids, sizes are laid out in this order from top left, except the one in the bottom (gripping a cord) which is 3.0/80 mm.

The gripfid on this photo is a 3.0 mm.

Other sizes (in diameter and/or length) available on request.

Listed price is for one (1) gripfid of each given size.
