Item details

This listing is a file for embroidery machines, not an embroidered item.

It is a redwork-ish barn (it's mostly running stitches with a little redwork thrown in), sized for a 6 x 10 hoop. See notes below.

Stitches: Approx. 19000 (closer to 12k without the trees)
Colors: Color chart says 8, you can get by with 5.
Takes about 30 minutes to sew on my single-needle machine.

The design is available for immediate download in the following formats: DST, EXP, JEF, PES, and VIP. Other formats available on request. There is a "color layers" picture included in the zip file that labels every part of the design and the general colors to use.

This design will look best on a solid color fabric, since the fabric will show through the barn.

I sewed this thing multiple times, playing with different barn colors and background fabric. I am including a picture of 3 of my tests so you can see what a difference thread choices will make. (Note that the bright red barn (at the front of the stack) is the exact design in this download. The other two barns have shadows in the hayloft and doorway that are not included in this file.) The test on burlap was done with a dark red thread.

You'll need three shades of thread or the trees - light, medium, and dark. Use greens for a spring/summer look, or yellow, orange, and brown/rust for a fall look.

The barn, itself, sews in two parts. The first part is the main color (the red in the color chart photograph). The second part is details. Choose medium gray for part 1 and dark gray for part 2 for a weathered look. Black thread for part 2 will make the design more bold. (I like the dark gray, myself.)

This was my Granddad's barn, built around 1940 and still standing. :)
