Since 2013, the semicolon has been elevated from a simple, under-used punctuation mark—beloved by grammar wonks and feared by all others—to a symbol of hope, support, and solidarity for those who struggle with depression, suicidal thoughts, mental health, and self-harm. It symbolizes the fact that we can always choose to continue; semicolons are used when an author could have chosen to end a sentence, but instead decides they have more to say.
I created this pattern in honor of those who choose every day to keep putting more words on the page, continuing the story of their lives. In honor of someone I loved whose story was never finished because she lost her battle with depression and trauma, I am donating my receipts from this pattern (minus Ety's fees) to Project Semicolon, which seeks to prevent suicide through support, education, and policy changes. Purple and teal are the colors of the suicide awareness ribbon, so that's why I chose this color.
Pattern format: PDF. Color pattern with DMC color references. Difficulty: Medium (blackwork requires careful attention) Size: 46 x 66 stitches (appx 3.2 x 4.5" on 14ct) My example in the photo was stitched on 14 ct aida and framed with a custom mat in a 5 x 7" frame, which I recommend. I've also done this on 28ct Monaco over 2 and that was gorgeous as well. The pattern also includes a high-res scan of a completed piece for reference.
(Note: This piece is priced at $5.00 plus an approximation of Etsy's fees. I'm not keeping any of the money from this piece. Thank you.)
Great pattern. Look forward to stitching it up!
