I designed and turned the gorgeous curly maple whorl so that most of the weight is at the bottom and outer rim. The low center of gravity and rim weight make for long, smooth spin times. The slender, curvaceous shaft is turned from black walnut hardwood and its 9 5/8" length makes this Tibetan very portable. I've added some decorative burning on both the shaft and the whorl, and an inlay of copper on the whorl adds a little shimmer as it spins.
Weight: .85 oz. / 25 g. Length: 9 5/8" / 24.5 cm Whorl diameter: 2 1/8" / 5 cm
This Tibetan spindle, like all of my offerings, is finished with French polish then buffed to a satin sheen with my very own homemade beeswax finish.
All of my spindles are tested by me, my wife, or one of my daughters before shipment. The whorl has been balanced with the insertion of two small copper pins.
I use sustainably harvested hardwoods from a local, small, family run mill. Visit their website here: http://www.johnsoncreekhardwoods.com/
