This richly colored eye-catching unique nicely domed cab of brilliant yellow, oranges and black is a premium example of the perfectly named Bumble Bee Jasper from Indonesia, collected near the hot steaming calderas of an active volcano, giving an evocative image to the yellow-orange plumes in this cabochon. Dangerous to collect and also to cut, this stone actually must be cut with protective gloves and face mask as it contains arsenic. Safe to wear and touch in this highly polished state, it creates an appealing contrast in its design, and will definitely make a remarkable one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry! Note that this cab does have pits, which can be seen in the photos, but this is common for this material, and, rather than fill them in with epoxy, I prefer to have the stone in its natural state. For its size, though, it is less expensive that others that I've cut because of this.
Bumble Bee Jasper Designer Cut Cabochon 32.8 x 33.2 x 8.1mm 59.72 cts.
I cut this cab by hand and it's been polished to a glossy polish both front and back with slightly rounded bottom edges for easy setting.
I purchased a few bumble jasper cabs. The cuts are interesting and inspiring and the polish is mirror-like. They are lovely!
