Dyavol - Titanium tip supported spindle in Jamaican Fiddlewood, Mulga and Dymondwood
This heirloom quality spindle is a hand made item, designed by Malcolm Fielding and made by Malcolm Fielding and apprentice maker Jory Freyee in the workshop of TheSpindleshop, Queensland. This item is in stock and you will receive the item as shown these photos.
No part of this item has been made by outsourcing, or using copying machines, 3D printers, automatic laser cutters etc. This item is made using traditional skills, methods, and craftsmanship, and its sale helps support and preserve those skills.
This original design for a a small support spindle has a thin straight shaft and a larger diameter twin wood whorl at the base. The spindle shaft is made from Dymondwood for strength, stability and long service life. The spindle tip is made from an insert of titanium - one of the hardest metals - for extreme long life. NOTE The upper tip of this spindle is extra thin.
The whorl is made from Jamaican Fiddlewood grown in Maleny QLD, a wood with lovely grain structure. The lower trim is made in Mulga (Queensland).
The spindle is finished to a very smooth surface, polished with a french polish and then a final gloss of carnauba wax for a long lasting shine and protection.
Your spindle is checked for quality and spin before despatch and comes with tip protectors and is packed with some top quality roving and a signed slip with the woods used listed and date of making.
This spindle has a long fast spin and excellent balance. Stability is great due to the proportions of the spindle and the shape of the whorl. A nickel-silver pin insert in the whorl perfects the spin and balance of this spindle.
Dimensions - spindle length overall approximately 245 mm, (9.75 in), weight 29 grams (1.03 oz approx). All my spindles are tested before despatch and a sample of our top quality Merino fibre is included free.

Returns & exchanges
Cancellations - please consider carefully when you order as I do not accept cancellation requests unless there are exceptional circumstances. An order cancellation involves quite a bit of time as the original order has to be removed from our database, after being entered and customer records created, refunds arranged and we have to correspond with Etsy about it. The goods involved are also then unavailable to buyers, for up to a week after we send a cancellation request to Etsy. In the event that we agree to a cancellation, we may then then make a cancellation charge of $10 US or 10% of the order value whichever is greater to cover our losses in administration time. In law in most countries a paid order is a contract between both parties, Etsy.com policy is that cancellations are at the sole discretion of the supplier.
I will replace goods at my cost (or refund item costs) that are found to be faulty in manufacture for up to six months from sale. Faulty items must normally be returned to me. Damage caused by inappropiate use or fair wear and tear is not covered by my warranty. The buyer is responsible for the cost of returning items to me, replacements will be shipped free of charge.
I can quote to repair items that have been damaged by the owner or accidentally. Please contact me for details.
Currently I am unable to take custom orders, sorry. You can ask for a copy of items that were previously sold by me on Etsy and sometimes (not always) I will be able to make the items and sell them as reserved items on Etsy. This business is based at Crystal Waters Ecovillage in Queensland Australia. I am unable to take personal callers at my premises or home. You can also find my products by a quick Google search for the Spindleshop.
