Meet “The Man-eater” Knitting Pattern. I’ve decided to name each of my pieces after a Weird NJ site. If you’re from New Jersey, then it’s likely that you know what this is! Weird NJ is "Your Travel Guide to New Jersey’s Local Legends and Best Kept Secrets.” "The Man-eater" Knitting Pattern is named after the real life "Jaws." In Beach Haven, NJ, everyone was having a normal, sunny day in the water when Charles E. Vansant was attacked by a shark and later passed away. Just a few days and 45 miles later, another shark attack happened in Spring Lake, NJ, killing Charles Bruder. After another few days, the people of Matawan, NJ thought they were safe from all attacks since they only had a small, freshwater creek to swim in. They were wrong. Three young boys were going for a swim when Lester Stillwell was suddenly pulled under by the same shark. Stanley Fischer dove in to try and save they boy, only to meet his own fatal end. The madness did not stop there. Within the hour, another young boy, Joseph Dunn, was attacked further down the creek. Unlike the other victims however, he narrowly escaped and survived his attack. The state of New Jersey went into a hunting frenzy, killing any shark they saw until they caught the infamous "Jaws". Once this shark was caught, 15 pounds of human remains were found inside his stomach.
