This is an “Intermediate level” punch needle pattern of a very colorful lobster resting happily on a beach bag. My inspiration came from a summer spent on Bailey Island, Maine; a summer that found me watercolor painting one lobster after another and selling them in the parking lot of a local restaurant at lunch time. I can now paint lobsters in my sleep.
The pattern is on weavers cloth, as well as on a paper guide showing color suggestions. And while the image itself is 6” x 6”, the cloth is an ample 12” x 12”. The instructions presume you know how to punch needle, and have had enough experience to deal with the nuances involved with tiny spots of color instead of large swaths of connected color choices.
Because of this, I have included an 8.5 x 11” diagram with color suggestions, and extensive instructions on my recommendations for completing this project. Also, I added a 4” x 6” color photograph blowup of the lobster alone; another helpful tool and a bit of motivation.
You’ll need a punch needle tool, threads, a punch needle frame, and a beach bag of your choice.
Contact me with any questions about this pattern, or if you are interested in having this design transferred to a 2.5’ x 3.5’ piece of monk’s cloth for a rug project.
