Vintage Metallic Trim - 1940s - Early 1950s - non-tarnishing Lurex metallic (Lurex is the registered brand name for a type of yarn with a metallic appearance. The yarn is made from synthetic film, onto which a metallic aluminium, silver, or gold layer has been vaporised). Unbelievably soft and supple - drapes beautifully. Highest quality used by mid-century vintage dressmaker, costume makers, and seamstresses. Also, perfect for embellishing hand-made holiday ornaments (because it drapes so well around a glass ornament), holiday cards or altered arts. This is so much classier than what you can purchase today - it is so soft and fluid, it feels like liquid in your hands. I love it!
I was lucky enough to find a remarkable group of 23 different genuine LUREX metallic trims in colors of blue, pink, silver, gold, copper and black. Lurex began being manufactured in the 1940s. These trims have a red vintage price sticker showing the trims once went for 20 cents a yard! I'm going to date these as 1940s to early 1950s. They were purchased at the closing of an antique shop in Missouri.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. very strong and as shiney as the day it was made - remarkable!
