FAQs

Handmade quilts should always be washed before use. Wash on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent and color absorbing towelettes (this will help keep colors from bleeding) in cold water. It is preferred to lay the quilt flat to dry or dry it on a clothes line. Drying it in a tumble dryer can cause shrinking and/or distortion to the different fabrics used in the quilt. If you have upcycled a formal dress made from delicate materials, it should be dry cleaned instead of machine washed.

I can create a personalized quilt made just for you or your loved ones! I can accommodate the following *sizes: Queen/King 100x100" Full 65x80" Twin 45x80" Throw 50x60" Crib/Baby Quilt or Lap Quilt 30x50" Cuddle 30x30" *Sizes are approximate and can vary some depending on the items that are provided to me, pattern choice and other circumstances.

A top quality quilt is made of: -A published piecing pattern -Fabric to cover the front and back of the quilt -Stabilizers and basting spray keep fabrics from stretching or shifting during quilt construction -Batting is the core of a good quilt -The raw edges of a quilt are covered by a binding -Large amounts of thread are used to stitch, piece, quilt and bind -Cutting and sewing fabric dulls the blades of scissors, rotary cutters, and the points of sewing machine needles, manual needles and pins which need to replaced periodically -Wear and tear occurs on many tools like the sewing machine, templates, quilting rulers, iron, and cutting mat -Countless hours are spent researching, calculating, constructing, and learning new techniques daily

Most of my quilts are custom or made-to-order which means that I will be working with you to make decisions about many details. It's normal to have many questions about what the steps are in the process such as choosing the right fabrics, finding the perfect matching color combinations, and what the heck is a binding anyway? Not to worry! Even though there are innumerable options available I will narrow that down for you! I typically give you a few options that work best for your specific order to choose from! If you are ever confused about a decision or detail I will be happy to explain what it is and what purpose it serves in your quilt. We will tackle each detail one at a time together!

Turn around time begins once all the materials have been gathered or received. Smaller quilts may take a week to complete. The largest of quilts can take 3-4 weeks or more depending on details like more intricate piecing patterns or the purchase of add-on services such as professional Long Arm Quilting or Machine Embroidery. If you would like to place an order and I have other orders ahead of you, I will always let you know what you wait time is and how many orders are ahead of you. My shop typically maintains 5 open orders. I always encourage clients to purchase their order as soon as possible to ensure that you get a slot in my pending order queue. Custom slots for the month fill up quickly as quilts do require several hours of labor.

Packaging - We also take every precaution to keep moisture and air pollution damage at bay by sealing your products in a crystal clear poly bag and by taping over all the box seams.

It's our pleasure to offer a mosaic layout style which allows flexibility unlike traditional square block patterns which have a set number of blocks. We use high end quilting fabrics and snuggle worthy fleece in a variety of colors! Cozy batting will keep you warm with a consistency of 80% cotton for natural insulation and 20% polyester for a smooth drape. Our baby quilts utilize silky satin binding and dimple dot minky fabrics to help develop sensory stimulation. Each quilt is adorned with award winning long arm quilting designs to create stunning texture for your quilt in coordinating themes by QuiltingbyDavid.com!
