Create your own Katana using this simple PDF pattern! Perfect for Cosplay or film props and the like.
Of course, katanas are traditionally made to the specifications of a specific user. However, this template is just a nice basic, average proportioned katana. The blade is about 28 in. long, the hilt is about 10 in. long, and the sori, or depth of the curve, is about 5/8th in. deep. You may notice that in the PDF, I have excluded the kashira (pommel cap), fuchi (hilt collar), tsuba (handle guard), habaki (blade collar). That is because those elements are built around the blade and are very customizable. I've tried making a simple, yet easily modifiable template. For all of these smaller pieces, a lot of those measurements I give in the downloadable PNG are suggestions.
In addition to the PDF, you will also receive the first image above as a PNG without the watermark to be used as reference. The PDF includes 5 pages to create just the blade+tang, 4 pages for the scabbard, and 1 page for the hilt. The pdf pages have triangles that are to be used as reference points! Line up the triangles on the pages with light and you can tape the pages together.
This listing is ONLY for a DIGITAL FILE. The PDF is already formatted to be ready to print, to life-size scale, on regular 8.5" x 11" letter paper. Simply press print and tape together the pages!
Recommend building process: Unless you've got everything figured from the beginning, I also recommend always building the blade first! Everything is built around the blade! Then you should build the habaki next if you want one. Then the guard! And that's when you should make the hilt. You can then build the fuchi (hilt collar) and kashira pommel cap) around the hilt. And the final step should be the scabbard.
