This is a vintage spring divider, or calliper from the Lufkin Rule Company, it is likely from the early to mid 1900's. It is in great condition with a handsome patina. All parts run surprisingly smoothly. There is almost no rust on it and the rust that is on it only adds to its cleanly aged look.
It is impossible to know exactly when this spring divider was made, but I took a guess of the 1930's.
