Learn how to make your own cloak, inspired by Hulu’s adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale”. This cloak is relatively quick and easy to make, and works well for all your Handmaid’s Tale costuming needs - whether cosplay or protest in nature.

SEWING EXPERIENCE: Intermediate
SIZE: This pattern is considered one-size-fits most, adult.
PATTERN DETAILS: 13 pages of tutorial, 11 pages of pattern comes as separate digital PDFs to print. Pattern prints onto multiple sheets of 8.5" x 11" paper, to be taped together. Pattern/ tutorial is available for download immediately upon purchase.
Instructions are for either a standard sewing machine (straight stitch and zig zag), or sewing machine and serger. Minimal hand sewing - just attaching the clasps. Step by step instructions include many diagrams and colour photos, and is easy to follow.
Note: Pattern is for hood, and neck/shoulders for front and back body pieces. Instructions are provided to using the shoulders pattern to make entire cloak pattern. (You will need to extend side seams to the full length needed -it’s easy!)
- Craft or rosin paper (for making the body of the pattern) - Masking Tape - Main/outer fabric (we used red Gabardine) - Lining fabric (we used cotton broadcloth) - Thread - 2 pairs of coat Hook & Eye closures. (We used Dritz 0.38'', #97-1)
- Sewing machine (serger optional) - Iron, ironing board - Measuring Tape - Yardstick - Marker or pen - Scissors - paper and fabric - Pins - Hand sewing needle
