It is thickest at the widest part of the handle @ 1 1/4", after the handle the working end starts at @ 1 1/8" and tapers to 3/4".
Nicely balanced, it is slightly heavy towards the handle which, when yarn is added, makes using it a pleasure.

A nostepinne or Nostepinde is a tool used in the fiber arts to wind yarn into a ball for easily knitting, crocheting, or weaving from.
The ball of yarn formed by a nostepinne is a "center pull" ball, allowing the knitter to remove the working yarn from the center of the ball rather than the outside. This keeps the yarn from rolling around the surface the yarn is sitting on and provides a more consistent tension. Depending on the technique used, the wound yarn can be in the form of balls or flatter cakes.
This, like the majority of my work is finished with Linseed Oil and then a natural beeswax and carnauba wax blend. Which gives it an easily maintained satin sheen.
