AMAZING Russian ammonite with gemmy Simbircite cabochon. Large stone with gorgeous dramatic pattern and nice polish! The dark and light areas are separated by shiny pyrite vein. Truly one of a kind specimen! High grade material. Professionally cut and polished.
About the stone: "Simbircite is a very beautiful semi-transparent stone which has a nice amber color, with shades of brown, white, red or green. It was named after the city of Simbirsk (former Ulyanovsk) in Central Russia. The first records of this mineral are dated back to 1765, but it received its current name only in 1985. It is a conglomerate of calcite (СаСО3), marl, pyrite, and fragments of ammonites and other ancient sea life forms. It was mostly formed in Cretaceous period, 95-65 million years ago." (c)
