This late Victorian button is just stunning! A large central open-back oval faceted blue rhinestone is framed in brass and two rows of small riveted steel beads. Slightly recessed below the steel beads are two enamelled panels in cobalt blue; four panels of speckled white/cobalt blue. The panels are all framed in brass; the outer edge with a dimpled pattern; two ends embellished with a molded leaf/scroll motif. Measuring 1 5/16" outside diameter, central jewel measures ¾" x 9/16"; brass loop shank. It is in very good condition; light wear consistent with age; light scratch/flea bite to one cobalt blue panel (evident under loupe). Ornate jewel buttons would have been worn by Victorian and Edwardian women on their coats and cloaks for evening wear—now a piece to be cherished!
