I was drawn to this ornate cast iron piece when I saw it at an estate sale. I wasn't exactly sure what it was, but I asked around and was told it's a floor grate that accommodates a stove pipe! The center scrolled part comes out easily, yet will stay in place if you want it there. There are 2 opposite "latches" that keep it in place once it is dropped down into the grooves in the center and turned. I didn't clean this up much...just ran a damp cloth over it to remove some of the thick dust that was on it. Black cast iron shows some rust. Overall measurement approximately 15 3/4"; removable center grate 6 1/2". Wording around the perimeter reads: Manufactured by the Adams Company Dubuque Iowa Design Patent Aug 31 1897.
Antique black cast iron grate...fabulous Industrial Art.
