Vintage mounted magnesium printing blocks for letterpress printing. This is a bulk lot of 15 pieces, and the items pictured are the actual items in the set. The blocks came from an old print shop in the Bay Area, California that closed many years ago. Based on the style and motifs, these blocks appear to range from 1920-1960. They are a charming and beautiful part of letterpress and advertising history!
There are 15-20 blocks in each lot (lot pictured IS the lot that you will receive). The designs mostly consist of abstract ornaments, advertisements (mostly from Bay Area companies), maps, matchbook covers, and business cards. Many of the ads have great retro designs and beautiful fonts. Sizes range from 0.75"-5"
The blocks are used, but appear to be in good usable condition. However, I have not printed with them and cannot guarantee that they will be crystal clear when printed. Some are dusty with ink residue on them, as expected.
Please note that the blocks, like rubber stamps, are mirror-image so that they print right-reading. They are charming and beautiful in their own right, but can be inked up and printed with a brayer if you do not have a letterpress option available. They are heavy for their size (made of metal mounted on wood) and could be used for crafts or assemblage or display.
