Before modern chemistry the only way of making pink glass was by adding real gold, and this is how I've made this extremely decadent pink glass pen.
This is a very luxuriant pen, I've 'fumed' real 22ct gold onto a light whispy white base glass to produce lovely tones of light to dark pinks, with heavier red striations to give it a marble like effect. Over this I've then layered clear glass to lock the gold in. When moved in the light you can see tiny gold and green-gold reflections from the metal, the photos really don't do the effects justice. The glass is quite light too, and according to my jewellery scales only weights about 33.7 grams (about 1.19 oz).
The pen, not including the nib, is around 180mm long (around 7 1/8 inches.) It is supplied with the nib as shown in the picture, as well as a certificate, hand signed by me, stating that this is a handmade glass item made by me, and a luxuary dark burgandy red filigree velvet gift box (the photos sometimes make this look a little lighter on some screens). There may be some slight surface imperfections, and internal bubbles, as this is entirely hand formed glass.
The mechanism can be removed for cleaning, and comes with a nib which can easily be swapped out to suit your own nibs. Most art and craft stores stock these nibs for everything from fine drawing to bold writing. Just dip the nib into calligraphy ink (fountain ink it too thin and not ideal) and start your masterpiece! The tube it fits into is rounded on top so not to leave a sharp edge too.
I’ve made this pen by melting and manipulating borosilicate glass (‘Pyrex’ is the well known brand name of this type of glass) directly in the flame to have maximum control over the glass. Every one that I make is unique in both the colours I use and the shape!
I also now keep some new Leonardt nibs in stock. If you wish I can also add a 4 pack of nibs (a roundhand, bent tip ballpoint, crown copperplate, and drawing nib ) A 5 pack includes all these plus a more expensive decorative 'Shakespeare' nib that has a picture of the Bard pressed into it, and this nib can also be supplied as a single nib if you'd prefer. Also there is an option for a Leonardt nib tin, which has a reprint of a Victorian design on the front, ideal for storing nibs in, or even a full selection of 10 different new nibs in a tin (2mm Tape nib, 1.1mm italics, point copperplate, copying and blue shorthand). The pen also comes fitted with the nib shown in the photo's whichever option you choose. I've shown how each different nib writes, but I am sure your calligraphy will be better than my awful handwriting!
The glass has been fully annealed in microprocessor controlled kiln to improve toughness, but it is still glass and should not be thrown around! Every pen I make is always slightly different, so is always a true one of a kind piece of artisan flamework made entirely by hand by lampwork in my studio in the heart of the English countryside.
I will happly ship anywhere in the world. Goods are shipped to address on paypal, but if this is a gift I can ship direct if you wish.
Due to recent Royal Mail changes to services, international orders cannot be tracked, however I can also send via more secure signed for and tracked service, however this is alot more expensive and is an optional extra, tracked international. Although this service is more secure it cannot be used to send to PO boxes, and in some countries doesn't always provide extra tracking info once it has left the UK. Most international items turn arrive with 21 working days (so not including weekends) but occasionally can take a little longer if delayed by border security/customs checks.
UK orders are shipped 1st class post and should normally arrive between 1-5 days, however at busy times of the year, such as Xmas, there can be delays.
Payment at time of purchase please, I prefer paypal
