This ribbon and spool are amazing. I can’t decide if I am more excited about it being used as adorable vintage decor or using the ribbon for a project. This type of thick sturdy ribbon is still available today but not at this price. The water repellent 4” wide ribbon is indestructible. It would be great for out door needs or creations you want to last for a long time. I was able to date this back to the late 50’s/60’s based on the information from the spool. It would be a neat addition to any vintage decor.
This ribbon was made by Pattern and is their ‘800’ product. It is at least 200 count, water resistant, and was made in the USA. It was packaged for and sold by the Platz Flower Company in Morton Grove, Ill. They also had locations in Yorktown and Juniper, a little village that doesn’t even exist anymore.
If you are interested in the history of the Platz Flower and Supply Inc here is a link to an article that talks a bit about it. The article is about another floral business in the same family that went out of business in 2010. About half way thought the article it talks about his family who got them all started in the business in 1910.
The ribbon is 4 inches wide. The spool identifies there were 50 yards. I did not unravel and measure but it looks as if it has never been used. The ribbon roll goes almost to the edge of the cardboard edge of the spool. As you can see from the pictures there is a generous amount of ribbon to be used if that is what you are buying it for.
The color is not specifically identified on the label. It is a lovely soft salmon color that has a bit of a bright sheen to it.
I have several more spools of vintage ribbon like this in various colors. If you are looking for something specific message me for more information
Slight color variations may occur due to not all computer monitors and phone resolutions are made equal.
