The purples in this textile were obtained using all natural dyes. It is a beautiful piece that measures 14 inches wide by 70 inches long, plus fringe. It is 100% cotton. It is a gorgeous textile that was woven on a back strap loom in the highlands of Guatemala. It could used as a table runner. It could be cut and made into stunning pillow covers. It is very beautiful. It was hand woven by a member of the women's association Utz Bat' in the Mayan town of San Juan La Laguna.
This textile was made on a back strap loom. A woman fits the strap of the loom around her waist and leans back to stretch it taunt. It's not an easy task. I have tried weaving on one several times and have come to understand the technique and physical endurance that it entails. I have so much respect for the weavers! The last picture is of some of the ladies in the cooperative that wove this beautiful textile.
Just to let you know, this textile appears more purple in real life than it does on my computer screen. It has more of a pink tint than the blue/purple on the screen. Please remember that colors may not be exact.

All the fabrics on this site are 100% cotton hand-dyed and hand-woven in Guatemala. The regular fabric is 36 inches wide. The fabric is not cut until you buy it. When you order multiple yards, you'll receive your fabric in a continuous piece.
Since these fabrics are hand woven there might be slight imperfections. These are characteristics that make the fabric stand out from machine made fabrics.
The corte pieces are different widths. The width of each one is in the description.
Fabrics should be prewashed before sewing with them. Edges of the fabric should be zigzagged to prevent fraying. Fabrics should be washed with like colors in the washing machine on the gently cycle with a warm wash. In order to ensure that colors don’t run, add 1 teaspoon of the fixative, Retayne, for every yard of fabric. Remove fabric from the machine right after the final spin cycle. Dry in the dryer until damp dry using the coolest temperature. Fabric should then be hung up to finish drying.
Retayne can be ordered on-line from any number of sites such as Joanne’s or Amazon.
