GAH...sometimes I wish I were born in the 60's. They had the most amazing quality! Who needs a Kaboodle when you have a vintage embroidered sewing basket??!!!!
This is a gorgeous and unique sewing basket designed exclusively for JC Penneys (see image with tag) in the late 60's to early 70's. The wicker with red/orange detail is in PERFECT condition. The stitching around the inside of the lid's lip is slightly unraveled, but would be easy to trim and fix. The embroidery is in perfect condition with no pulls or unraveling. The lid's cloth IS slightly stained with two dots of dirt (see image)...and might brighten in color with a professional cleaning.
Although you CAN find these baskets on the market, you almost never see one with the sewing tray still inside! Perfect for holding bobbins, pins, thimbles or even knitting needles...you can use the top tray to hold your tiny items and the bottom to hold your collection of colorful yarn.
The pin cushion sewn into the underside of the lid is also in great condition! It has one or two tiny pin holes...but no rips or tears. The twist clasp to close the basket as well as the wicker handle with orange/red detail is in great condition and still works beautifully!
The basket is close to 10 inches tall and 11 inches wide in the middle. Without the tray inside, the basket is 7 1/2 inches deep.
