This listing is for Two (2) handcrafted beads. They are made with genuine turquoise and coral gemstones inlaid into brass. These are round in shape but they each have 8 sides in true polygon style, not including the hole areas on each side. They have a circular pattern of brass rings with turquoise and coral pieces inlaid within and without the brass circles.
Each bead measure about 15mm. Made in Nepal.
Tibetan inlaid beads are handcrafted using the same techniques that have been passed down for generations untold. The artisans in Nepal make these exquisite pieces working with just a few hand tools. Tree resin is used for gluing the stones. Some special kinds of clay are the material that gives the pieces an antique finish. To clean the jewelry, they use a kind of tree fruit which acts as soap. This is a very old method that originated when manufactured soap was not available. Nepalese artisans and Tibetan artisans work together and produce jewelry and other Tibetan handcrafts in and near Kathmandu and in areas such as Lhasa and Boudha since the Tibetan artisans migrated to Tibet after China took control of Nepal in the 1950s. It is very sad that some Nepali artisans have had to give up their craft and move to the gulf states in search of employment to support their families. It would be so much better for their families and for maintaining the artistic traditions of Nepal if the Nepali artisans could remain at home and make a good living by selling the products on the world market. A portion of all my sales goes to help these artisans preserve their traditional ways of creating.
