Item details

This listing is for a natural untreated Azurite Malachite gem. The measurements of the stone are 24 mm by 13 mm by 3 mm deep. The weight of the stone is 12 carats. This gemstone is not backed.

The shape of this cabochon is an offset rectangle. Nice finish and polish on the stone. There is a beautiful botroidal pattern showing in the greens of this cab. This is a nice size for a ring or pendant.

Azurite Malachite is a copper mineral related to turquoise and chrysocholla, in the sense that they are all associated with the ore of copper. It’s the degree of oxidation of Azurite Malachite that determines its’ blue or green color.

Throughout history, this mineral has been used for various purposes other than as a gemstone. The ancient Egyptians used ground Azurite to create the vibrant blue colors seen in their art, and the pharaohs and their queens were known to use it as an eyeshadow. During the Rennaisance, it was the base for paint used by artist’s of the day. It is often found in arid areas of the world and is found in the desert Southwest, here in the US.

Azurite Malachite is also influential in the metaphysical and healing arts. It is said to be effective in clearing and activating all chakras, with a particular emphasis on the heart and throat chakras. Malachite influences the heart chakra, while Azurite has a beneficent effect on the throat. As well, Malachite is associated with the musical tone C, and Azurite resonates with the musical tone D. It inspires spiritual balance and enhances spiritual wisdom and maturity.

As a gemstone, Azurite Malachite is a beautiful combination of color and pattern, often displaying beautiful concentric botryoidal patterns often seen in copper related minerals. It is a somewhat soft gem and care must be taken in wearing this unusual stone in jewelry.
