This listing is for a natural untreated Azurite Malachite gem. The measurements of the stone are 24 mm by 13 mm by 3 mm deep. The weight of the stone is 12 carats. This gemstone is not backed.
The shape of this cabochon is an offset rectangle. Nice finish and polish on the stone. There is a beautiful botroidal pattern showing in the greens of this cab. This is a nice size for a ring or pendant.
Azurite Malachite is a copper mineral related to turquoise and chrysocholla, in the sense that they are all associated with the ore of copper. It’s the degree of oxidation of Azurite Malachite that determines its’ blue or green color.
Throughout history, this mineral has been used for various purposes other than as a gemstone. The ancient Egyptians used ground Azurite to create the vibrant blue colors seen in their art, and the pharaohs and their queens were known to use it as an eyeshadow.
