This 24-inch by 20-inch piece of antique French hemp linen, hand-loomed, handwoven in the early 1900s, is one of the loveliest I have come across. Details are:
~ One side is a light flaxy linen with rarely seen rose and blue stripes, and the other side is a darker wheat beige linen with red and blue stripes. In the 1st photo, the piece is folded over to show both sides together. Traditionally, this wonderful two-toned effect was achieved by the weavers spreading the freshly woven cloth in a field and bleaching one side in the sun. The result is beautiful and makes this piece very versatile, because it can be used on either side.
~ The 2nd and 3rd photos show the entire piece on both sides.
~ The width of the stripes (including both colors) is 5-1/2 inches.
~ This textile has never been used, but I did gently launder it to remove the surface dirt and ironed it with a pressing cloth (to avoid making it "shiny").
~ The 20-inch width is selvage-to-selvage of the piece as originally woven. The two shorter ends are rotary cut.
~ The piece has a rustic, farmhouse character, with color variations in the linen on both sides, due to the nature of the plant material used to make the fibers. There are also "slubs" in the fabric and occasional darkish marks, which are characteristic of hand-woven grain sack textiles. I've pointed out some marks on the fabric on both sides (last two photos). Since the piece has already been laundered, it is unlikely that these variations can be removed.
Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. I am always happy to provide additional information about my items.
On purchases of multiple items, Etsy calculates combined shipping when purchases are made on the same invoice (all items in a cart at once), but the amount is not always correct. I refund shipping overcharges of more than $1.00 immediately following shipment.
If a buyer wishes to have an order shipped to an address other than the buyer's address, the shipping address must be entered during the checkout process. Specifying a different address by convo or message is not sufficient to permit me to ship to that address. If an address changed is requested, I will refund and cancel the order, and ask the buyer to repurchase using the correct shipping address, in compliance with the Etsy Seller Protection Policy.
I no longer ship internationally to any country. Shipping is to U.S. addresses only.
I accept payment through Paypal via Paypal balance, credit card, or direct bank transfer, or through Etsy payments. I do not accept eCheck payments. I do not offer layaway services or installment payment plans.
Returns & exchanges
I accept returns only if I have made a mistake in the listing or an item otherwise is not as described in the listing, as long as the return is postmarked within 3 business days of receipt and is returned in exactly the same condition as it was received. The buyer must contact me prior to returning any item. Refunds will be issued after the item has been returned.
All of my listings are sold on a first come, first served basis. I do not "hold" or "reserve" items for purchase at a later time.
My prices are the same for everyone. I do not add a cushion to prices to allow for negotiating price or provide for free shipping. I treat all buyers the same and keep my prices as low as possible for everyone, rather than negotiating special prices for individual buyers.
Reviews are a valuable resource for both sellers and buyers. I rely on my reputation to inform new buyers about the quality of my products and level of customer service. If ever there is any kind of concern or issue with a purchase, please contact me prior to leaving a review with less than 5 Stars, so that I may remedy the situation.
I sincerely appreciate my customers who take the time to leave reviews and share their experiences with other Etsy buyers.
