This is a very special seax. Forged from pre-Bessimer process shear steel and wrought iron, the blade materials are over 150 years old!
Based on common excavated examples from Northern Europe, this seax has the traditional "broke back" style blade. The only modern difference is the hidden is held into the handle with modern epoxy.
The 16.5 cm (6.5") blade was expertly forged and tempered to give a hard edge and softer spine. The edge is finely ground to be shaving sharp. It has been lightly etched to show the pattern of the wrought iron.
The handle is 10.5 cm (4.25") out of Elk antler that has been carefully shaped and hand polished to bring out the natural beauty of the material.
This is an extremely historically accurate seax, intended for living historians who care deeply about the items they use being as close to originals as possible.
Because sheathes are highly specific to various times and regions, the seax is supplied without one. If a sheath is required, please contact us for a time and cost estimate.
