Pre WWll Kodak Retina 35mm film camera made by Kodak A.G. in Germany. The serial number is 422212 , type 117, placing it's year of manufacture as 1934. This camera is one of the first Kodak Retina cameras ever made! The lens serial number is No. 663261
The Retina 117 was the first 35mm camera to use daylight loading cartridges, which Kodak invented. Previous to this, 35mm film had to be loaded into the camera in total darkness. We take these cartridges for granted now, but they were a historic innovation!
The shutter is still firing after 80+ years in existence. It has a leather covered exterior, self erecting struts and a Xenar f:3.5 F-5 cm lens. Shutter speeds of "T", "B" and 1 - 300. Aperture opening range from 3.5 to 16. It uses zone focus with a range of 1 meter to infinity.
The exterior shows (not surprisingly) rub wear from the hands that held it and on the frontispiece (door). The black painted exterior metal has lost a lot of paint. The dial for setting the film advance "A" or "R" for rewind has a lot of wear on the surface. The tubular metal viewfinder is quite beat up.
The interior is in very good + condition. The brushed metal surfaces show little wear. The faceplate is in excellent condition as are the black leather bellows. The taking lens is remarkably clear.
It's a very compact little camera measuring approximately 5 3/4 inches long by 2 7/8 inches tall by 1 1/4 inches deep.
