Handspun fine 100% Shetland dyed deep purple using logwood (plant dye).
This is as fine a yarn as I spin. It takes ages but I like to keep spinning this sort of yarn for my shop because it's used for Norwegian and Shetland colourwork knitting (intarsia), which I like to promote.
In one of the pics you will see I'm getting 12 wraps per inch. You could knit this on 2.5-3.5mm needles.
The British grown Shetland fibre I used to spin this yarn was a mid-grey which I first mordanted with alum to fix the dye, and then over-dyed with a deep dark purple logwood dye. It's a firm but soft Shetland. The yarn is as even as it's possible to get a hand spun yarn.
If you are wanting to do a truly authentic Shetland piece, this is a great yarn to have in your stash to pick out the centre of Shetland designs. You may not need that much of it as often the designs call for many colours. Alternatively this would knit up really well into Norwegian style mittens or fingerless gloves, or a fisherman's kep. There are many uses.
Average yardage per skein approx. 58 yards Wraps per inch: 12 Needle size: 2.5-3.5mm Dye: Logwood Mordant: Alum Fibre: British grown grey Shetland
