✪ NOTES ✪

Wood veneer is a natural product and often has imperfections. We inspect our veneer thoroughly and document any defects below:

* The sheets you receive may have fine end splits.

* Crack on one edge possible (at most ~5mm from the edge, running along with the grain).

* One corner may be chipped off.

* Clipping is not perfect, expect up to 1cm offset when bookmatching.

* This is not a defect per se, but grain varies quite a bit for this listing. The photos demonstrate the two extremes, the sheets you receive will be in between those.

✪ ABOUT THE WOOD ✪

Common name(s): Burmese teak, teak
Botanical name(s): Tectona grandis
The Wood Database link: http://www.wood-database.com/teak/

There are a number of woods called ‘teak’, but the real thing is Burmese teak (Tectona grandis). This oily tropical hardwood is the hallmark of decay resistance and supply can’t seem to meet the demand: even though the wood is widely grown on plantations, its popularity in high end outdoor furniture, yacht decking and other luxury uses keeps the prices surprisingly high for a wood this abundant.

Marquetry: The texture is fine, so it cuts and saws well. Short grain can fall apart quite easily.

Ring making: The bending response is surprisingly poor, but you are rewarded with a very pleasant 'latte' to medium brown color that few other woods offer.

FAQs

✪ We dispatch your order in 1-2 business days. ✪ Default shipping is priority international postal mail (not tracked). You can upgrade to Signed & Tracked at checkout for a small premium. Please be aware that tracking scope may be limited for certain destinations (mostly within Europe). ✪ See the "Express shipping" section for express delivery upgrades. ✪ For estimated delivery times and cost to your region, please refer to our shop shipping policy. ✪ Shipping is automatically combined for multiple items. You will be charged only a single shipping cost, regardless the number of items in your order (exceptions apply, these are always noted). ✪ Your veneer is shipped in a sturdy box or rigid envelope to prevent any damage in transit.

Each of these refer to various methods of slicing up a log for veneer production. ✪ Crown cut (a.k.a. "flat cut" or "plain sliced") results in "cathedral" look with the grain tightly packed around the edges, often with an eye in the center. ✪ Quarter cutting result in very straight grain. ✪ Rift cut is somewhat similar to this quarter cutting and it is frequently used for oak. Choosing one over the other boils down to your project and preference: they all handle more or less the same. Quarter cut and rift cut veneers may be a bit more expensive as these methods of production results in a lower veneer yield from the log.

Veneers are sliced sequentially from a log, so each consecutive sheet has a very similar look. This enables creating a pleasing visual effect by placing two or more sheets next to each other. With book matching and butt matching (a.k.a. end matching), you flip one of the veneers along one of the axes to get a mirrored, kaleidoscopic look. With slip matching, you build a repetitive pattern by placing sequenced veneers next to each other. Our veneer sets are typically sequence matched. Consult the description of the given listing for sequence matching information.

Yes, as long as you order the multiples at once. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a sequence match for multiple orders, because somebody else may buy a few sheets off the given sequence in between your orders.

Unless otherwise noted, our veneer is of the standard 0.6 ± 0.1mm (~1/42") thickness.

Our dimension figures are defined as minimums. Usually, the veneer will be a bit larger by a few millimeters. This allows you to square the veneer, cut off rough edges (if any), etc. and still have the required dimensions for your project.

We are looking into that. Give us a shout to help us gauge the interest.
