I created this motif for a pattern booklet of spirals that I am working on. This tutorial is 6 pages and includes 15 full-color photos. It also contains a brief introduction to freeform and a chance to try out one of the most popular freeform motifs. The finished piece measures 4”X6" and could potentially be used as anything from a project embellishment to component of a larger freeform project such as a tote bag or jacket. For this listing I am offering something special - both the pattern and the piece itself. Having the piece in front of you while working allows you to see all the tiny details. Its a great opportunity for someone just learning. Since I cannot offer a digital download and a physical object in the same listing I will do this - I will send a full-color printed copy of the pattern with the item and email a pdf copy of it to the email address on the paypal account used for payment within 2 (usually 1) business day. This will let you get a head start before the piece and printed pattern arrive.
To replicate the piece you will need:
Sport weight yarn in the following colors: Ivory Light Brown Medium Brown Dark Brown
Size E Aluminum crochet hook Small yarn needle Scissors Handheld garment steamer (optional)
Although an intermediate familiarity with crochet is suggested this would be a great introduction to freeform. Once you start to catch on this is a motif that can be modified and/or added to a bit for the purposes of experimentation without negatively impacting the remainder of the design.
This pattern uses almost all basic stitches (sc, hdc, dc, etc.). The knurl stitch is the only one I would call intermediate although the actual construction might be a little challenging. I include a written explanation of the knurl stitch and a link to a video tutorial.
