1--3.5 oz, 200 yd, 3 ply DK skein of 50-50 CVM wool and alpaca, 14 wpi. Mill spun, $24.50 each.
A fiber marriage of crimpy, full memory CVM and flat, silky alpaca spins into textured, soft, and durable yarn. The natural lustrous black is an appealing color. Its occasional, naturally occurring slubs from the varigated CVM give it a nice texture. This fiber is next-to-skin soft and will make lovely gloves, scarves, mittens, and hats.
American Romeldale/CVM Sheep are a Heritage Breed, listed as "critical" by the Livestock Conservancy (livestockconservancy.org). Our "calico cat" sheep make exceptionally fine, 4-6" long staple wool with a Bradford Spinning Count of 60-62, fiber diameter 20-23 microns. Their fleece is dense, soft, and highly crimped, making it an ideal blend with alpaca. Best of all, it really can be worn next to the skin! We have sold our pure CVM yarn to grandmothers knitting baby wear. When you buy our wool you are helping preserve this rare American dual purpose breed. See the American Wool Council's website to learn more about wool: "the only fiber crafted for the purpose of meeting any purpose." https://www.americanwool.org/
