Debouillet sheep are a breed of sheep developed for the dry desert southwest of the U.S. They are a cross between Delaine Merino and Rambouillet, bred for both fiber and meat. This breed is very sustainable and produces a wool that is as fine a quality as Merino. The fleece has been washed in a non-toxic earth-friendly and biodegradable detergent to remove lanolin dirt, and soil particles. The fleece still contains some vegetable matter, which is to be expected of all fleeces not treated with harsh chemicals. This fine wool feels very soft and can be worn against the skin once made into yarn. Great for felting, hand spinning, roving, and carding for batting.
All of our fleece come from sheep raised in the Texas Hill Country or the Trans-Pecos region of Texas. You will be supporting the Texas sheep industry and sustainable ranching practices when you purchase a fleece from our wool mill.
