Emma is one of our ewes. She is a Romney/Suffolk/Columbia mix, with at least 50% Romney. This fleece has a high luster and a nice crimp. A 7" staple. Very pretty. The fleece has been skirted twice to remove most of the vm and any unusable sections. The weight of this fleece is 4.9lbs.
I've just washed and am playing around with Emma's 2015 fleece. Her fleece doesn't hold on to vm like some do. Very clean and easy to work with. It has a wonderful luster. It is more of a cream color rather than a bright white.
Our flock of Romney and Romney cross sheep produce a long lustrous fleece. The crimp of their wool is uniform from the butt to the tip of a lock. Romney wool has the finest fiber diameter of all the longwool breeds. Romneys also have a low grease content so the raw weight isn't too different from the washed weight. Their wool is great for both spinners and felters.
