They say "pretty is, pretty does". Well, this lovely Tibetan spindle delivers on both accounts!
I designed and turned the gorgeous American Lacewood whorl so that most of the weight is at the bottom and outer rim. The low center of gravity and rim weight make for long, smooth spin times.
To the whorl, I've added some decorative burning. There's also a hammered copper washer and red over blue dye for added beauty. The slender, curvaceous shaft is turned from sugar maple hardwood with decorative burning and touches of red over blue dye to match the whorl.
Weight: 1.25 oz. / 35 g. Length: 11" / 28 cm Whorl diameter: 2.25" / 56 mm
This Tibetan spindle, like all of my offerings, is finished with French polish then buffed to a satin sheen with my very own homemade beeswax finish.
All of my spindles are tested by me, my wife, or one of my daughters before shipment. The whorl has been balanced with the insertion of two small copper pins.
I use sustainably harvested hardwoods from a local, small, family run mill. Visit their website here: http://www.johnsoncreekhardwoods.com/
