This is a 1930s prospecting hammer, it has a chisel end and a pick end. The handle is believed to be made of hickory wood. The hammer is heavy for its size. Its in good condition, with plenty of dings and scrapes, it looks well used but not beat up. Slight surface rust but its extremely minor. The hammer is slightly loose from the handle, it has some wiggle room. That can be easily fixed with a new wedge, or glue. Great piece for anyone interested in rock picking or minning or prospecting.
