This pattern was designed in 1995 and it is still one of my best selling patterns. Tons of people collect Noah's Ark themed items. So what makes my pattern different from the rest of the lot? For one, it has FIFTY critters in it and they are all realistic, and was designed to appeal grown ups. The pattern includes male and female versions (lions) where the sexes differ significantly. The pattern cover is 8 1/2" x 11' with detail photos on the reverse side. The finished quilt is about 37" square.
I designed this to be an art quilt and an heirloom, to be passed down. This one pictured was my fourth and last quilt made using this pattern and it is the cutest. When I made this version, I had just gotten my sewing machine back from the repair shop. The area under the puffins got stained with some oil. I guess the repair man didn't clean up my machine very well. My solution to remedy the problem was to applique over the defect...viola! lemonade from lemons!
The techniques I used are fused applique and satin stitching. You could save some time by using raw edge stitching. The instructions in the pattern are extensive and I have six how to videos on my website www.critterpat.com showing how to do the techniques to make any of my patterns. If you know how to sew, and you break the project down into steps: make the center section, then the log cabin strips around the center, then arrange all the animals so they contrast with the backgrounds, then sew all the brown animals, and then the white ones...you will finish in record time.
