I've been cutting lots of Fordite cabs and there is not enough time in the day to make jewelry with all of them, so I've decided to put some of them up for sale:
One of a kind polished oval Fordite cabochon. It measures 38mm x 18mm x 5mm and will make a good sized piece of jewelry. This particular piece is from Ford paint and both sides are polished. I see a duck in the pattern. What do you see?
What is Fordite?
Fordite, also known as Detroit agate or Motor Agate, is old automobile paint which has hardened sufficiently to be cut and polished. It was formed from the buildup of layers of enamel paint slag on tracks and skids on which cars were hand spray-painted (a now automated process), which have been baked numerous times. In recent times the material has been recycled into "eco-friendly" jewelry.
