I've been cutting lots of Fordite cabs and there is not enough time in the day to make jewelry with all of them, so I've decided to put some of them up for sale:
One of a kind polished Fordite triangular cabochon. It measures 37mm x 21mm across the bottom x 7.5mm and will make a good sized piece of jewelry. This particular piece is from Ford paint and both sides are polished.
What is Fordite?
Fordite, also known as Detroit agate or Motor Agate, is old automobile paint which has hardened sufficiently to be cut and polished. It was formed from the buildup of layers of enamel paint slag on tracks and skids on which cars were hand spray-painted (a now automated process), which have been baked numerous times. In recent times the material has been recycled into "eco-friendly" jewelry.
