Item details

Fine silk is a medium weight, hand dyed, spun silk thread suitable for general stitching. For bookbinding it will work very well for traditional headbands or endbands.

You can wax the thread if you need, but this will make it loose its gloss.

If you have difficulty choosing your colour, I am happy to put a couple of skeins side by side and snap a photo as needed. Just convo me for details.

If a package is undeliverable due to an inaccurate shipping address provided by the buyer, or if a package is unclaimed by the buyer, I cannot be held responsible. The buyer will therefore be responsible for the cost of (re-)shipping the package.

(1) Usually I send out items 1-3 business days after I received your payment. Currently I ship out twice a week, often on Mondays and Thursdays, but that can change depending on what else is going on in a particular week.

(2) If you select "rush order" from the shipping options I will always ship as soon as possible, which can mean that I ship the same day. However, what I guarantee is: If you select the "Rush Order Upgrade", and you place your order before 7 pm your items will ship out the next (work)day. If, however, you place your order after 7 pm, I will only see it the next morning, and thus might ship out a day later than you might think. Example: A) Order placed Monday 6 pm with Rush Order Upgrade - I will pack your items the same night and they will ship out on Tuesday even if I or my twins get sick and I have to find someone else to bring your goods to the post office (instead of Tuesday, OR Wednesday, OR Thursday). B) Order placed on Monday at 9 pm with Next Day Dispatch - item will ship out on Wednesday (instead of Wednesday, OR Thursday, OR Friday).

(3) If you are in a hurry to receive your items, it would be best to contact me first to make sure I am aware. I usually answer requests within a couple of hours - unless I am sleeping.
By default items are send via Royal Mail First Class. For larger shipments parcelforce will be used.
An express service is available upon request, and sometimes by choosing from a drop down menu. For orders within the UK this includes guaranteed next day delivery. For international orders I can ship through courier services like Fedex for an extra charge. You will want to combine this with a "rush order", as the express service refers to the shipping mode, and the "rush order" to how quickly I process your order.

(4) For basic shipping I always only charge actual postage rounded up to full 50p to recover some of my packaging costs. I will inform you when your items get into the mail, and let you know the tracking data if applicable. The system often automatically will charge too much for shipping, and refunds are made through the channel that you initially paid me on the day your items go into the mail.

(5) If your items get shipped to a destination outside the Schengen-area, customs may be due. They have to be paid at your country's tax office, and vary with the destination. I have no control over them, and they are your responsibility.

Furthermore you have to make sure that you are allowed to import the items you purchase. I can not be held responsible for items held by customs.
If you have questions or doubts about that you can also contact me, and I will try to help you to figure out what you are allowed to import.

(6) Usually I ship out in new container boxes or envelopes. But I also recycle as much packaging material as possible and sometimes sent out orders in used boxes. Filling material is usually re-used packaging material and might be paper or plastic. If you have preferences regarding packaging material, please let me know via convo or during checkout.


(1) I accept payment through Paypal and Etsy's Direct checkout, which includes payment through mayor debit and credit cards, as well as Etsy Gift Cards. You do not need a paypal account to pay through paypal. If your bank account is located in the UK I also accept Bank Transfers, and accept checks. However, I deactivated this option for now, as it caused confusion for a lot of customers. If you want to pay with one of those options, please get in touch before your purchase.

(2) Etsy works such that a purchase is only finalized (and known to me) after you submitted your payment. Usually I send out goods within 1-3 business days after a completed payment (for exceptions see the individual items descriptions).

(3) Should your purchase have been by mistake or contain false information, incorrect shipment information in particular, please contact me immediately so that I can change the information or cancel the sale.

(4) Shipping costs are automatically calculated and often turn out too high when ordering several items. For basic shipping and handling (without extra service purchased) I always only charge the actual postage rounded up to full 50p (to recover some of my packaging costs). If you overpaid by more than a pound, I always refund, and if it is less usually as well (for certain payments, for example through cheque it is a pain to refund 10p and then I might not. You can always ask for it as credit toward your next purchase).

(4) If your items get shipped to a destination outside the Schengen-area, customs may be due. They have to be paid at your country's tax office, and vary with the destination. I have no control over them, and they are your responsibility.

(5) I carry the risk of the item being lost on the way. Which means you get a full refund for items which do not reach you. All delivery times that I give you at the time of dispatch are estimates, and it takes longer until Royal Mail (and thus I) regard a parcel as not-delivered. Do contact me immediately, though, if you have any concerns about something not reaching you, and I will then walk you through all steps.
All claims regarding non-reception must be made within six months after you placed your order to be eligible for a refund.

Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Digital downloads
  • Items on sale
Conditions of return
Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs. If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value.
Additional return information
I do accept cancellations before items are shipped out. Meaning you'll get a complete refund over everything you paid to me, including any service charges. After they are sent off, they will be have to go the route of returns.

Despite my aim to only ship and sell work that is well done, it could happen that something escapes my attention. In that case you do have the right to complain about the goods you received, you can give them back, exchange them for the same item (no exchanges for something else), or ask for a fix, and it won't cost you anything as long as the following conditions are satisfied:

If you are dissatisfied with your goods please contact me so that we can discuss a refund. Don't send your items back before contacting me. Generally I'll take back all goods as long as
a) you notify me within 14 days after reception
b) you ship according to my instructions within 21 days of delivery
c) they reach me in the state I sent them to you. (That means for example that I won't take thread back that you already cut, scraped the wax off or damaged in another way. I won't take a book back in which you already wrote, your child scribbled, if a page is ripped out, something was glued to it, or the like.)

I will refund all of your costs, including basic shipment and return shipment if you have reason to be dissatisfied with the quality of the product. (Please notice that extra services like rush order or guaranteed delivery are not refundable if and when they were provided.)

IMPORTANT EXCEPTION: No returns of digital files for obvious reasons. If you are dissatisfied with a file you received please contact me to discuss the problems you are experiencing.

If you want to give your items back for any other reason than a lack in quality: for example because the thread is thicker or thinner than expected, has a different hue than expected, or simply because you have changed your mind, ANY reason other than a lack in quality or my mistake in packing your order, then the extended refund policy applies.
In that case you can still contact me, cancel your sale within 14 days of receiving your goods, and after doing so send the item back to me. You can also cancel your order BY sending it back to me. However, I think it works best for both of us if I know what to expect. Contacting me also makes sure you stay within the 14 days time frame you have for cancellation of your order. - Communication always makes things so much easier for both parties!

If and when the goods reach me in the state I sent them to you (see above; this is not about how the post treats the package.) I'll refund the price of the product and the shipment costs you paid me to send it to you (minus anything I have to pay upon receipt, like customs fees or if the postage you put on was insufficient). That means, you have to pay for the return shipment, but the inital postage of shipping the item to you is on me. If sending from within the EU you are required to choose a tracked service if the item was sent tracked to you and get a proof of posting in any case. I carry the risk of post way of returns from within the EU.
If returning from outside the EU I strongly recommend buying a tracked service: you will have to carry the risk of it getting lost in the mail. Items don't usually get lost but they might, and if I tell you they didn't reach me, I want you either to be able to check that against the tracking number you were provided, or you'll have to take my word for it. If it doesn't reach me, you won't get your money back, sorry.

Custom made items are excluded from this extended refund policy. (That means you have of course still the right of requesting a fix or giving items back that lack in quality, but you may not give them back just because you don't want them anymore.) Please note that cutting a custom amount of thread from a whole spool is regarded a custom item. A custom amount is anything other than 5m.

1. Personal information that I collect from you

In short: I need to know what to send to who to process your order.

The long version: To fulfil your order, you must provide me with certain information (which you authorised Etsy to provide to me), such as your name, email address, postal address, payment information, and the details of the product that you’re ordering. You may also choose to provide me with additional personal information (for a custom order, for example), if you contact me directly through convo or during checkout.

2. Why I Need Your Information and How I Use It

In short: I need to know what to send to who to process your order. I also retain this information to fulfill my legal obligations for example toward tax authorities.

The long and official version: I rely on a number of legal bases to collect, use, and share your information, including:

* as needed to provide my services, such as when I use your information to fulfil your order, to settle disputes, or to provide customer support;
* if necessary to comply with a legal obligation or court order or in connection with a legal claim, such as retaining information about your purchases if required by tax law; and
* as necessary for the purpose of my legitimate interests, if those legitimate interests are not overridden by your rights or interests, such as 1) providing and improving my services. I use your information to provide the services you requested and in my legitimate interest to improve my services; and 2) Compliance with the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use. 3. The third parties with whom I share personal information

In short: The delivery company has to know where to deliver your package, so I'll have to tell them.

The long version: Information about my customers is necessary to conduct my business. I share your personal information for very limited reasons and in limited circumstances, as follows:

Etsy. I share information with Etsy as necessary to provide you my services and comply with my obligations under both the Etsy Seller Policy and Etsy Terms of Use.
Delivery Companies. I engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services to my shop, such as delivery companies. I will share your personal information with these third parties, but only to the extent necessary to perform these services.
Business transfers. If I sell or merge my business, I may disclose your information as part of that transaction, only to the extent permitted by law.
Compliance with laws. I may collect, use, retain, and share your information if I have a good faith belief that it is reasonably necessary to: (a) respond to legal process or to government requests; (b) enforce my agreements, terms and policies; (c) prevent, investigate, and address fraud and other illegal activity, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect the rights, property, and safety of my customers, or others.

4. Transfers of Personal Information Outside the EU

In short: I don't, but Etsy may, check their policy for what they do with your data.

Longer Version: I do not myself store and process your information through third-party hosting services in the US and other jurisdictions. However, Etsy sends me Email containing your order, which is stored on my email server. As a result, your personal information could be transferred by Etsy to a jurisdiction with different data protection and government surveillance laws than your jurisdiction. 5. Your Rights

In short: If you are concerned, contact me.

Long version: If you reside in certain territories, including the EU, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. While some of these rights apply generally, certain rights apply only in certain limited cases. I describe these rights below:

Access. You may have the right to access and receive a copy of the personal information I hold about you by contacting me using the contact information below.
Change, restrict, delete. You may also have rights to change, restrict my use of, or delete your personal information. Absent exceptional circumstances (like where I am required to store data for legal reasons) I will generally delete your personal information upon request.
Object. You can object to (i) my processing of some of your information based on my legitimate interests and (ii) receiving marketing messages from me after providing your express consent to receive them. In such cases, I will delete your personal information unless I have compelling and legitimate grounds to continue using that information or if it is needed for legal reasons.
