~~~ Here we have a lovely glass refrigerator or baking loaf pan with original lid. The pan is marked on the bottom "Glasbake", (see pic. 5). These pans were made to be used with the refrigerators and ovens of the 1920's-1950's. This particular pan and lid are made of older, thick, heavy glass. It is decorated with a row of square panels along the bottom edge of both "long" sides. It weighs just a tad over 2.5 lbs. when boxed and packed for shipping.
Dimensions: - 6.75" long at rim - 6" long (interior dimension) - 4" wide at the rim - 3.5" wide (interior dimension) - 3" tall - 3.5" tall (with lid in place)
Condition: -Very good vintage condition - One chip along interior rim of lid (see pix. 6 & 7) - Some "roughness"" and tiny chips along rim of base - No cracks, repairs, hairlines, stains or cloudiness to the pan or lid - Glass lid sits snugly on the base
“Glasbake” brand glass, introduced in 1917, was the McKee Glass Company's answer to “Pyrex” (the heat- and breakage-resistant cookware produced by Corning). After many years of production, the McKee Glass factory was acquired in 1951 to become the McKee Division of Thatcher Glass Company. The spelling "Glasbake" was used between 1917 and 1953. After 1953 the spelling was changed to "Glassbake". So we know that this piece was produced prior to 1953.
Vintage pieces such as this lend themselves well to today's cooking techniques. It could still be used for meatloaf or breads, but also could be used for cooking or re-heating small portions of meats or vegetables in the oven. It also still makes great refrigerator storage because the clear glass allows you to see the contents and glass does not stain or hold onto food odors like plastic or other materials. This delightful pan is ready for use or display in your vintage or contemporary kitchen.
