THIS TURQUOISE
You will receive the nugget of turquoise in the photographs. This old Mexican turquoise nugget from a 1970's stash has been colour enhanced and stabilised. Polished to a soft sheen and measuring roughly 45x33x15mm, it weighs 38g. Will be sent carefully packed in quality Two Skies packaging.

CANANEA DISTRICT TURQUOISE
Two Skies has sourced an old 1970’s stash from the Cananea district in Sonara, Mexico. Most of the turquoise mined in Mexico comes from the Sonora region, which includes Cananea. Mexican turquoise is generally very high quality and is found in shades of blues and green. Turquoise has been prized for jewellery by Mexican silversmiths for centuries. The Aztec civilisation traded using turquoise, as well as using it for jewellery and decoration – the famous Montezuma Serpent is thought to be around 500 years old, and is decorated with mosaic tiles of turquoise.

TURQUOISE
Our turquoise comes from a mixture of working mines, old private collections and secret stashes! Originally sourced from mines ranging from the south west USA, northern Mexico and China. All of our turquoise is stabilised unless otherwise stated in the listing. Stones that are naturally very soft or porous tend to be stabilised for jewellery. Modern methods of stabilisation involve injecting epoxy resin into the stone in a high pressure oven, which seals all the cracks and pores. It also stops the gem from changing over time - people who wear non-stabilised Turquoise often complain about their stone darkening and going green over time (this is due to natural body oils reacting with the minerals, causing the colour to change.) Some stabilised stones are chemically dyed at the same time, however colour enhancements are never made by Two Skies, which is in line with gem industry standards - you can be assured the colours displayed in our stones are 100% natural.
