Item details

Seven ounces alpaca, natural charcoal gray in color with caramel tips, and three ounces Romney wool, a medium-gray color with brown hues throughout, were blended together, carded on my drum carder, then handspun on my wheel to yield these three skeins of soft, lofty yarn. This blend has enough alpaca for a lovely drape, and enough Romney wool, which is one of the softer breeds of wool, to give nice stitch definition.

In keeping with our love of community, this fiber comes from two local farmers. We clean and process the fiber ourselves using eco friendly, biodegradable products that are gentle yet effective in getting the job done. However, you may encounter a small piece of hay in your yarn due to the fact that we are humans not machines processing it. ;-)
Since 2009, I have been an avid spinner spinning thousands of yards of yarn from sock weight to bulky. My goal as a spinner, is to leave the characteristics of a hand spun yarn while providing reliable stitch gauge throughout the hank. I take great care in the creating of my yarns as over processing the fibers, and over blocking the yarn strips the fibers of their life and resiliency. For me, there is nothing quite as lovely to work with as quality handspun yarn.

FAQs

It is best to always hand wash hand knitted natural fiber items in cool water with a natual fiber safe laundry soap or natual fiber wash. Let set for recommended time stated on label of detergent. Rinse in the same temperature water, squeeze excess water out gently, then reshape and lay flat to dry. Larger items can be laid on a towel, gently rolled, and can be pressed by hands or feet to expel water. Do not agitate, or vigorously scrub during washing as fibers can felt easily.
