Why the name Hawaiian Dog Yarn and Fiber? Well, 7 years ago, while living in Hawaii, this little dog came into my life and it was love at first sight. She has been my constant companion and in all honesty she is spoiled rotten. I chose this name also because I have a love of yarn and fiber, so I put my two loves into this store.
I have always been interested in finding yarn and fibers made out of different plants. It has become a quest (obsession) for me to see what kinds of yarn and fibers I can find. I am thrilled to be able to offer a 100% pineapple fiber yarn.
Pineapple fiber yarn is sometimes hard to find especially in a DK weight. This yarn is in its natural color and is minimally processed. Because it is minimally processed you may find plant fibers or a little dirt which can easily be washed out.
I have washed some and it washes great.
It is great for weaving, rug making, knitting and crocheting
I had originally posted that this was a lower grade yarn because it is coarse and it had to join the yarn to make a continuous skein. Last week I received Banana fiber top for spinning. It is coarse a has a long fiber length. I feel that because it is 100% Pineapple that this is how this yarn is meant to be. In order for it to be softer, it needs to be mixed/plyed with another fiber.
**Please note: This is not a soft yarn and it is very coarse.
There may be knots in the yarn where it has been joined. I tried to make them large enough so that you can rejoin it how you like it.
Skein or cake = 2ply 100 gms or 3.5 oz approx. 120 yards approx.
