Item details

This Whorl is made from African Mahogany which come from West Africa and is a yellowish brown.

For the whorl, I started with my piece of wood cutting two small v-grooves on the top near the finial, the outer edge is well rounded with a very shallow groove near the edge. The bottom of the whorl has a deep dish shaping.

The Finial is Black Walnut from the United States. It is dark brown in color.
Starting at the base I cut deep square bottom groove, then a round bottom groove. The top is well rounded with a small brass hook in the very top.

A poplar dowel makes the shaft, finishing the piece. Several coats of clear gloss polyurethane make it shine.

FAQs

It is best to always hand wash hand knitted natural fiber items in cool water with a natual fiber safe laundry soap or natual fiber wash. Let set for recommended time stated on label of detergent. Rinse in the same temperature water, squeeze excess water out gently, then reshape and lay flat to dry. Larger items can be laid on a towel, gently rolled, and can be pressed by hands or feet to expel water. Do not agitate, or vigorously scrub during washing as fibers can felt easily.
