Item details

This Oval 40mm Carved Mother of Pearl Shell Cabochon is drilled at each end with a 1.5mm hole, making it ideal to be crafted into a pretty spring bracelet.

It's slightly curved and long enough to span most wrists, as can be seen in my final photo.

These are unlikely to be a regular supply item in my shop so when these pieces are gone, they're gone. They're not quite as precision carved and finished as most of my pieces.

PayPal is my preferred method of payment. Don't have it? You can still pay that way using your credit card. Just click on the PayPal icon at checkout and follow the prompts.

BACK STORY
The Indonesian Archipelago, made up of more than 17,000 islands, is the very heart of the Coral Triangle, the global hotspot for marine life.

Coral reefs support almost a quarter of all known marine species, however, some researchers believe that the current rate of extinction in marine species may be outpacing the rate of discovery.

Understanding coral reefs' rich biodiversity - and taking an inventory of its inhabitants - is critical to better understanding how pressures such as overfishing, pollution, ocean warming, and ocean acidification will impact corals and the life they support.

That's why the Bali-based Indonesian Biodiversity Research Center (IBRC) was founded in June 2010 by a group of seven international research institutions.

The Center's goal is not only to increase biodiversity research in Indonesian scientific communities, but also to build lasting research networks between Indonesian and U.S. research centers.

In 2012, Dr. Chris Meyer, IBRC course instructor and Smithsonian scientist, and his team completed a study comparing Bali’s reefs to other biodiversity hotspots around the world.

The result? Dr Meyer reported: “Yes, indeed, this is the most diverse spot on the planet!”

The center’s education and research efforts will support the Coral Triangle Initiative, a six-nation agreement among Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Solomon Islands that focuses on conservation and sustainable development of the marine resources of the designated area.
