The symbols and motifs on this Tribal Fabric are unique to the Hmong Hill Tribe. As with all Ethnic Fabric, it is perfect to use for clothing, handbags, bedding, home decor, and more!

We work directly with a local Hmong family in Northern Thailand, ensuring that finances from this Thai Fabric will support the continuation and preservation of this beautiful cultural tradition of creating Hmong Textiles.

*** Colors may appear slightly different due to the display of your device or monitor. This is true Indigo Fabric. The actual color of the fabric is only made possible by using fresh indigo dye from naturally grown indigo plants. ***

Care Instructions
- Hand wash cold with like colors.
- Air dry flat.
- Iron on medium heat.
- Colors will run during the first few washes. This is normal for hand dyed fabrics. A salt or alum solution can help secure the dye.

How It’s Made
- Created on natural cotton grown in Northern Thailand.
- Each piece of cotton is hand stamped with wax (resist) using carved wooden blocks containing symbolism of the Hmong people.
- Locally grown natural indigo plants are boiled to create a rich, deep indigo plant-based dye.
- The fabric is submerged in the fresh indigo dye. This process is repeated until the color reaches its notable deep dark indigo color.
- Once the fabric reaches its notable color, it is boiled in water to remove the wax, further revealing the intricate symbolism and patterns.
- The fabric is then hung to dry in the sun, bringing out the richness of the indigo dye.
- After the fabric is dyed and dried, any remaining wax is removed.

The entire process is completed by hand, preserving the tradition that has been passed down through the Hmong culture.

About the Hmong People
The Hmong are an ethnic group of people that primarily live in China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and the United States. Originally from China, the Hmong gradually migrated south during the 18th century due to political unrest. Today, many Hmong are located in the mountainous regions of Northern Thailand after escaping Laos in the late 1970’s.

The Hmong are rich in culture and are well known for their imaginative textile patterns and vibrant traditional style. The Hmong tradition of hand-crafted needlework, embroidery, cross-stitching, and batik can often be found in fabrics and sewn-goods throughout northern Thailand.
