Item details

This Double Horn 20mm Crescent Moon Carved Mother of Pearl Bead is double drilled with 2mm holes for macrame cuff and bracelet makers.

It's carved both sides with a smooth curved surface, and is drilled through either side, towards the tips, as you can see from my photos. (Click the arrows on the left or right or the photo to scroll through the various images.)

The colour off-white looks ethereally "clear" in in some parts.

Please note that this listing is for one piece only from a very small batch.

This design is also available in this size in bone, and black horn, drilled and undrilled.

You'll find the other listings here -

PAYPAL is my preferred method of payment.

Mekepung or bull races are held in the west Bali regency of Jembrana from July to October each year.

Madurese migrants introduced the sport to celebrate the end of the rice harvest, and it has become a tourist attraction for one of the least visited regencies on the Island of the Gods.

While I'm not a fan of the use of animals for this type of sport and have never actually seen one of these events, the races are said to be thrilling contests between teams of two young water buffalo harnessed to a chariot.

The chariot is ridden by a jockey who holds onto the bulls' tails as they career down a 2km race course, kicking up dust and sweat.

The water buffalo used in these races are said to be treated with great care, and are fed elaborate diets containing "all sorts of wonderful potions and secret ingredients".

Most of the races happen outside the regency capital of Negara, next to a river estuary in the location of Parancak.

“Don't take the bull by the horns, take him by the tail; then you can let go when you want to.” ~ American humorist Josh Billings.
