Item details

A selection of twelve mini balls of single spun yarn, plant dyed in a subtle 'landscape' palette, ideal for tapestry weaving and stitch work.

100% sheep's wool
Handspun (drop spindle)
160g / 5.6oz
Each ball will weigh between 5g & 20g (20g = 0.7oz), approx
Total meterage: 240m/780' (approx); as a guide, 10g = 15-17m/49-55' (approx)
Yarn weight: DK/light worsted, 11-14wpi.
Handwash, warm water, mild soap

PLEASE NOTE: this is a rustic, handspun yarn, so please expect some variations in thickness and texture. You may also find small pieces of plant material tangled in the fibres. I believe that this all enhances the natural beauty of this hand produced item.

Yarn colours and ball sizes in the selection may vary slightly from those shown, but they will always be within the same range and colour palette. If you have any doubts, please contact me for more precise information.

I try very hard to represent colour accurately. I photograph against an aged wood background in natural light, but please bear in mind that your monitor may show colours differently to mine.

These yarns are part of añañuca's* LAVKEN range of homespun yarns. They have been spun by a group of women from the coastal region of central southern Chile. They are members of an indigenous association, and part of Chile's own fair trade network. Yarn is spun from the local sheep, which are usually Suffolk or Romney Marsh. They grow a number of their dye plants, or collect plant material locally.

Why not try weaving directly onto one of my 'art looms' for instant framing of your work:

For my 'day job' I run a small fair trade** business - añañuca*- working with spinners and weavers in Chile to produce my own range of handspun weaving yarns and kits. You can find out more about my work on my website: www.ananuca.co.uk
**I am a supplier member of BAFTS (British Association of Fair Trade Shops and Suppliers).

I endeavour to ship items on the day following receipt of your order. Occasionally we will need to make an item specially (such as a weaving frame), in which case, I aim to ship within 3 days of receipt of order.
I will message you as soon as I receive your order (normally on the same day), to let you know when exactly I intend to ship your item.

I am happy to ship to other overseas destinations. Please contact me for a quote.

Little by little I am trying to do my bit for the environment by using recycled packaging where possible.
I re-use old cardboard packaging and bubble wrap for frames and kits.
Yarn orders are currently packed in polybags - I am using up my supply before switching to a compostable alternative.
If for any reason you require 'new' packaging (for example, for a gift), please let me know when you make your order.

Additional policies

I do my best to represent the true colours of the yarn, but please be aware that colours may vary between my monitor and yours.

I am happy to make bespoke orders in colour and dimensions of your choice. Please contact me for details. Normal turnaround speed for yarns and kits is 3-5 days depending on availability of yarns. Turnaround for bespoke weavings is 14-28 days depending on size, complexity and availability of yarns.

FOR TRADE ORDERS: please message me via my website - www.ananuca.co.uk

PETS: I process orders in a house with three cats. I am unable to provide information as to the pets that may be present in the houses of the women in Chile who spin my yarn, although I am aware that some do keep dogs.

PLANTS: My handspun Chilean yarns are spun in the home. The women wash, comb and prepare the raw sheeps' fleece themselves. Some of my yarns are also plant dyed. You will expect to find small pieces of plant debris tangled in the wool fibres. A certain amount of dirt and plant debris may come out of the wool on washing. Colour fastness is not affected.
If you do have any concerns/questions, please ask before you order!
