A pattern for a lovely and warm poncho, with lots of explanations on stitches you might not be familiar with. The Poncho is a one size poncho but gives options to adjust circumference and length of the neck as well as length of the body, entirely according to your own taste. It is crocheted in the round and all in one piece from neck to edge.
Many of the rows of this poncho have been crocheted with double strands of different coloured yarns using a 6mm/US: J hook crocheting fairly loose for a supple drape. This made for a warm and fairly thick poncho. You can of course use a different size hook, depending on your choice of yarn. All types of yarn will do although too bulky will probably not work well because of the relief in the pattern itself. DK or worsted weight will be a great choice. This is also a fantastic pattern to work with all those scrap yarns you must have laying around, waiting for you to combine them creatively ;-) The pattern itself details a complete list of the yarns used in this poncho.
Because you will crochet the poncho in one piece, starting with the neck, you will discover quickly whether you have put on enough stitches to fit your size. The width and height of the turtleneck is a matter of taste and the pattern gives you all possible options. Once you have the neck the way you want, the rest will follow naturally.
This pattern is written with US crochet terms. The poncho in this pattern is 87cm/about 34 inch long including the neck and 76cm/30inch without the neck. The pattern is tested by a group of both, beginners, as well as experienced crocheters. They loved it, hopefully you will too!
