Item details

These are the last 6 skeins from a ewe called Mrs Brown that I bought last year. The breeders are local to me and normally breed teeswater sheep - for their fleece - but this particular ewe is a cross between a black wensleydale, a blue texel and a kerry hill, giving her a lustrous, soft fleece with a long staple and lovely dark brown, almost black colours. Her fleece wins many prizes at agricultural shows. A few of my pics show a grey colour but the close up pics give the truest idea of the colours. I spin without washing or carding the fleece first as I love the randomness of the colour variations that you get. The wool is in skeins because it is easier to wash and dry like that but I can put it into balls if preferred. Because it will have been washed twice at the most when it is sold, you may find the odd scrap of grass still remaining in the fibre! It is 2 ply wool and quite chunky - 4 or 5 mm needles are suitable - but it depends on your project. I would advise doing test squares with both. I am hoping to get one of Mrs Brown's fleeces this year but can't be certain...this might be the last chance ! The price is based on all 6 skeins but the weight of each skein varies between 55 and 105 grams or 1.9 to 3.6 oz and I will happily send 1 or all 6!!
